A Landscape of My Own / ink on newsprint / displayed in OCAD University (2018)
Description:
This was my bed comforter for my entire childhood. For some reason, it took me a very long time to realize that it really didn't give me comfort at all. The inaccuracy of it all is laughable. Sports? Please. But I never stopped to wonder why I was sleeping in a room that looked so opposite to my personality. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary, not a catalogue portrait of gender roles.
I wish I knew this as a kid.
I printed either side of the comforter on newsprint sheets, then slept on them, scanned them, printed, and slept on them repeatedly. After a week, this is the result. Printing the final images on clear acetate, I stamped the wet ink on newsprint, and drew images into two landscapes with black ink. The framed images on top are the final pieces.
