On The Queer Body | 2019
Description:
This video piece navigates the disassociated events with my body that I attribute to queerness. It is an indulgence of these moments, where I allow them to persist and then diminish. At times, I feel my body is a removed vessel that operates according to different social and cultural spaces, queerness becoming a mere physical characteristic. Perceptions of masculinity and the male body are often rigid, perhaps imbedded unconsciously in how I present myself. On The Queer Body is where I attempt to isolate my body from scrutiny. I probe intimate images of myself and abstract them, command them. By moving and expressing my body this way, I am in control; each movement is completely of my own choice. The aesthetic simplicity of these actions allows me to reassert myself, to momentarily claim my presence not just as a queer individual, but as a physical being.
